Cult classic Deadly Premonition joins Xbox One backward compatibility
Deadly Premonition might not appeal to everyone but it does have a substantial cult following.
The game is a survival horror experience set in an open world environment. It's like a bizarre version of L.A. Noire fused with Twin Peaks. Just like L.A. Noire, you have to unravel complex mysteries and piece together varying information. However, the story has a supernatural twist to it.
According to the developers, players are sent to a place called Greenvale, "a remote rural town where mystery and murder go hand in hand." You take on the role of Agent Francis York Morgan, and "delve deeper into Greenvale's deadly secrets". Interrogating witnesses, finding clues, and unraveling violent crime scenes are just a few of the challenges that await you in Deadly Premonition. It's not subtle in any way. The title even holds a Guinness World Record for most critically polarizing survival horror game ever made.
Today, Microsoft announced that the game would be coming to Xbox One backward compatibility. Deadly Premonition was directed by Hidetaka Suehiro who made the Xbox One console exclusive D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die. Suehiro is known for over-the-top experiences and Deadly Premonition is regarded as his most twisted work yet.
Deadly Premonition launched in 2010 and still holds up surprisingly well today. It's just as strange and quirky as ever. If you haven't played the title, be sure to check it out at retailers if you crave such experiences.
