Chime in: Do you think Microsoft will ever release Surface 'Andromeda'?
Will Andromeda ever come out? We want to know your thoughts!
Over the last week or so, several reports have cast doubt over whether Microsoft's Surface Andromeda will ever see the light of day. Rumor has it, Microsoft is considering canceling the Andromeda project altogether. According to our sources, however, things aren't so depressing. Microsoft has delayed Andromeda's release so that it has more time to work on Andromeda's OS, but Andromeda itself has not been canceled, at least not yet.
Microsoft is also going to use the extra time to talk with developers and try to get some big names into the Microsoft Store with apps that work on Andromeda. So, as of right now, the only "bad" news is that Andromeda is being delayed, which is par for the course for many internal Microsoft projects these days. This delay should make for a much better product when/if it finally does release, which is nice.
But we want to know what you think. Do you think Microsoft will ever find the courage to release another mobile device? We know there are lots of people internally who would love to get Andromeda out there into the wild, but at the same time, there's plenty of reasons for Microsoft to not go ahead with something like this. If Microsoft can't improve the app-gap within the next year or so, Andromeda might not have a leg to stand-on.
Of course, although Andromeda hasn't yet been canceled, that doesn't mean Microsoft won't cancel it in the future. Microsoft may decide to cancel at any point, but that hasn't happened yet. Let's hope Microsoft can turn things around on the software side before it's too late.
Is Andromeda likely cancelled as the rumours say?
