At Windows Central, we always try to inform you about exciting AAA games and smaller projects. Today, we're going to talk about an action-platformer called Blasphemous which was recently announced for Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. It started off as a Kickstarter project, but now it's being funded by Team17.
The phrase "action-platformer" doesn't do Blasphemous justice because its visual style reminds us of the old-school Castlevania games. The reveal trailer gives you a better understanding of what you'll be in for. In Blasphemous, you take up the role of "The Penitent One" in the dark gothic land of Cvstodia, where a foul curse, known simply as "The Miracle," has fallen. You basically have to escape eternal damnation by slaughtering everything in your path.
According to Team17, you'll explore this nightmarish world of twisted religion and discover its many secrets. Combat revolves around the use of devastating combos and brutal executions to smite hordes of grotesque monsters. There are also massive bosses you have to take down at the end of the levels. Considering that the game focuses on religion, you can locate and equip relics, rosary beads, and prayers that grant you special abilities.
Blasphemous launches some time in 2019, but a concrete release date hasn't been revealed at this time. Are you interested in playing the game? Did you play Castlevania growing up? Let us know.
