Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cross-play should ensure content equality across platforms
This is good news, I think.
What you need to know
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is an upcoming first-person shooter from Activision.
- Due to cross-play, maps and modes won't be restricted to particular platforms any longer.
- However, PlayStation 4 owners will still get an "exciting advantage" at launch.
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available to preorder for $60 on Amazon.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a spiritual reboot of the famous Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare franchise. It features familiar characters, but in new situations which reflect current world realities. As always, the game also comes with a number of modes and the ability to cross-play with gamers across consoles and PC.
Given the fact that cross-play is a standout feature in this year's Call of Duty entry, it was important for the team to make sure that all platforms had access to the same content. According to a report by Charlie Intel, "post-launch maps and modes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will release on all platforms at the same time." However, the reality may be a little more complicated than that. You can read a portion of the press release Activision sent to media outlets below.
While everyone gets the same maps and modes, PlayStation 4 gamers get "an exciting... advantage." It's unclear what this means that the moment, but it might be an experience boost or ability to play the game early. Only time will tell.
Despite that, it's great to see that all of the content like maps and modes, will be the same across platforms. Hopefully, there isn't some hidden exclusivity for one more in there. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
