What you need to know

  • Mayhem Mode 2.0 is coming to Borderlands 3 on April 23.
  • It adds over 25 all-new modifiers and 10 levels of Mayhem.
  • A new seasonal event, Revenge of the Cartels, is also dropping on April 23.

April 23 is a big day for Borderlands 3 as Gearbox adds its new Mayhem Mode 2.0 update and starts the Revenge of the Cartels seasonal event. If you've already made your way through its recent DLC, now you have even more content to enjoy.

Mayhem Mode 2.0 adds over 25 new modifiers rated from Easy, Medium, Hard, and Very Hard. While Easy modifiers are usually beneficial to the player, the rest give enemies a bigger advantage. Gearbox teased a Medium modifier called "Floor is Lava" which encourages you to stay on the move at all times by forming a pool of lava beneath your feet when you stand still. As can be expected, you'll be able to earn better, more powerful weapons as you make your way through the Mayhem ranks.

As Gearbox notes, "Modifiers are selected at random, but the number of modifiers and difficulty ratings of those modifiers are always the same for each Mayhem level." You can see this in the table below.

And from April 23 until June 4, you can enjoy Revenge of the Cartels, a new seasonal even featuring an all-new area, new enemy types, limited-time Challenges, tons of new legendaries and anointments.

In his continued studies of human customs, your Saurian crewmate Maurice has gotten himself mixed up with the wrong crowd, and now finds himself indebted to Joey Ultraviolet, the kingpin of the Eridium Cartel. To save Maurice's scaly hide, you'll need to take the fight to Joey and his gangs of underlings at Villa Ultraviolet, an opulent hideout overlooking a tropical paradise.

These updates are free for all players.
