Blizzard Entertainment won't be holding the previously announced BlizzConline event in early 2022, the company confirmed on Tuesday. In a press release, Blizzard explained that while it was "tough decision" the company decided to focus on its upcoming games instead of pulling together an event.
This doesn't mean there won't be news however, with Blizzard adding that there will be new announcements on different games in the coming months, meaning players should expect more on titles like upcoming action-RPG Diablo 4 and hero shooter Overwatch 2. Blizzard also explained that part of the reason for this is to help re-think what an event like BlizzCon should look like moving forward.
"Whatever the event looks like in the future, we also need to ensure that it feels as safe, welcoming, and inclusive as possible. We're committed to continual communication with our players, and we see BlizzCon playing a big role in that going forward. We're excited about what we'll do with the event when we revisit it in the future," the press release reads.
This comes as parent company Activision Blizzard is currently facing a lawsuit alleging that the company allowed sexist workplace practices and abuse to take place. Multiple employees have been let go from the company, including the namesake for the Overwatch hero formerly named McCree, who has been renamed Cole Cassidy as a result.
