Beach Farm is a time management game for your Windows Phone that has you overseeing operations at an island farm. You are tasked with growing and harvesting crops, raising livestock and trading/selling your farm goods to neighboring island customers.
Beach Farm comes in as is today's HERO App, which is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network. The program has changed slightly from last year and partners AdDuplex with AppDeals, TechRewards{.nofollow} and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. When you first launch Beach Farm, the Windows Phone game will walk you through a tutorial that will highlight the fundamentals of gameplay. You start the game with a modest farming spread with just a few parcels of cultivated land where a crop of corn is growing. You'll add hen houses, grain silos, road-side stands and more. The goal is to grow your farm and become a farming giant through trade and sales.
The gaming screen is modestly laid out with your farm view modified by touch (slide to the right, pinch to zoom, etc.). Your gold and gem count is displayed in the top right corner, and access to your gaming profile is nestled in the left corner. Access to the game's settings is just below the player profile portal and access to the community menu and gaming store run along the bottom of the gaming display.
Settings cover sound and music options, language selection, access to the gaming tutorials and exchange code entries for trading resources amongst players. Your gaming store is where you will buy everything for your farm from cultivated land, pastures, decorative trees, livestock, seeds, fruit trees and more.
You'll earn money as you sell your farming products, which in turn can be used in the gaming store to re-stock your farm or expand it. Gems are earned during gameplay and are used to speed up wait times associated with construction.
The mechanics of gameplay are simple in that you tap the area of your farm that you need to interact with, and action icons will appear. Tap the icon and slide your finger over the area you want to effect. For example, to harvest crops tap on the field and choose the sickle icon. Then slide your finger over the crops you want to harvest.
For the most part, Beach Farm plays out much like Farmville or Township. You will encounter walk up traffic looking to buy products, and there is a message board where neighboring islanders are looking to buy products. You also have the ability to visit other farms and trade or buy goods from them.
The only nit I have discovered in playing Beach Farm over the past few days is that screen taps didn't always register as they should. If you are tapping a target that is close to another item, you may need to zoom in a little before your tap gives you access to the correct item.
Overall, Beach Farm is a fun, free game to spend a little time with. It is ad supported with in-app purchase opportunities.
