Ubisoft is all in on the future of Assassin's Creed. The company just revealed a massive expansion coming to Assassin's Creed Valhalla and a major crossover that sees Eivor and Odyssey's Kassandra face off.
Dawn of Ragnarok marks what is possible the most ambitious Assassin's Creed expansion to date. As threats from Jotunheim and Muspelheim, led by Surtr, march against Asgard, Eivor steps into Odin's shoes once again. The expansion is set to feature over 30 hours of gameplay across the Norse realms approximately one-third the size of England.
"We based our design of the dwarven realm on the Norse Sagas in order to create a documented mythological fantasy," explains Ubisoft Sofia Producer Mariana Gosteva. "The scale of Svartalfheim is indeed vast – we created a strong setting allowing us to expand the story of Odin in their quest to save their beloved son Baldr. But there is even more to that – one of our key objectives from the very beginning when designing the world was to offer to the players the opportunity to explore and investigate, to provide them with a playground where they can engage with a world very different from what they have enjoyed in the main game so far, and to experiment with all the fresh new ingredients we are adding to the gameplay."
The crossover, being described as the series' first Crossover Story, launches for free tomorrow on Dec. 14. One story will be available in both Valhalla and Odyssey. While it may seem like a stretch — even for the Assassin's Creed franchise — that Eivor and Kassandra would meet, Odyssey has already established that Kassandra lived well over 1,300 years thanks to the Staff of Hermes.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla takes players back to the Dark Ages of England on a quest to find a new home for their Viking clan. This being Assassin's Creed, you can also visit several mythical realms thanks to some series wizardry.
