What you need to know
- Ancestors Legacy is a strategy game along the lines of Age of Empires.
- It focuses on Medieval Europe and places you front and center in various campaigns.
- The game runs at native 4K resolution on Xbox One X.
- You can preorder it for $34 through the Microsoft Store.
Ancestors Legacy is a real-time strategy game inspired by historical events during the Middle Ages. It's scheduled to launch on Xbox One on August 13. The game combines resource management, base building, and squad-based battles, in an expansive experience. A highlight of the game appears to be the cinematic action camera that puts you right in the middle of the fight with the press of a button.
According to the developer, you can take command of your army as you storm through medieval Europe in an extensive series of campaigns. Choosing one of the four available nations – Anglo-Saxon, German, Slav, and Viking – you will be tasked with more than just conquering, raiding and pillaging enemy camps. Only by utilizing various tactical options, taking strategic advantage of the environment, and managing your bases, will you emerge victorious.
Last year, WCCFtech sat down with the game's producer Tomek Gop to talk about Ancestors Legacy. When asked about the technical specifications on Xbox One X, he said the game ran at "native 4K version."
Ancestors Legacy is currently an Xbox One console exclusive and the decision to only release it only on Xbox One and PC came down to ease of development. When asked about the decision, Gop said "Once we decided we'll go for it anyways, all the research we've done told us that it's easier to do PC and Xbox One rather than, say, PC and PlayStation 4."
Pillage those villages
Ancestors Legacy is a squad-based real-time strategy with a strong focus on tactics. Inspired by medieval European history, it brings to life four different nations and their conflicts, usually solved by war.
