AdDuplex kicks this month's HERO App program with Little Angel! for Windows Phone

Little Angel! is a challenging endless runner game where you help guide an angel fly as far as possible, avoiding a host of dangers along the way. The Windows Phone game features hand-drawn graphics and a collection of power-ups to help your angel fly a little further.

Little Angel! is also today's HERO App, which is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network. The program has changed slightly from last year and partners AdDuplex with AppDeals, TechRewards{.nofollow} and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers.

Little Angel! takes a slightly minimalist approach to gaming with an uncomplicated main menu and simple gameplay. However, the minimalist appearance does not mean the Windows Phone game lacks challenge.

Little Angel!

The primary menu for Little Angel! offers the customary options that include jumping into gameplay, view the online leaderboard, access the gaming options and view the about screen. Additionally, you can access a brief help screen and view other games from the developer from the primary menu.

Gaming options for Little Angel! include turning on or off vibrations, sound, animations, and score submission. The animations option is available should the game begin to run slowly on your Windows Phone, you can dial back the graphics quality. In playing Little Angel! on both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 550, I did not experience any lag times with the animations turned on.

Little Angel!

When you are ready to jump into gameplay, you do have a secondary menu where you can choose the game's difficulty level and access the gaming store. As you play Little Angel! you collect stars that can be used in the gaming store to buy power-ups. These power-ups include items such as shields, wind and extra lives that can increase your angel's odds at survival.

There are two difficulty levels: easy and hard, though they should probably be hard and harder — the so-called easy mode is about as frustrating as we'd have expected hard to be. Hard is downright nasty. Neither is necessarily bad, but don't expect a cakewalk when you tap on the easy difficulty.

Little Angel!

Gameplay has your angel flying from the left to right and to help it overcome gravity, you tap on the screen to maintain elevation. Tap and hold the screen and your angel will bounce off the top of the screen. You will need to find a tapping rhythm to maintain a stable flight path and to avoid any obstacles that come your way.

Dangers include killer bees flying by, spiders, thorny trees and more. You will also have door switches to activate and power-ups are activated by various screen gestures.

As with any endless runner game, the goal is to travel as far as possible and Little Angels! affords you three lives per game. You will also find stars scattered about the gaming screen that can be collected (for use in the gaming store) and your final score is based on your distance and collected stars.

Little Angel! is a challenging endless runner game and can be a tad frustrating until you develop a tapping pattern for stable or controllable flight. One nice feature of the game is that courses are randomized in the each time you play, you'll face a new pattern to tackle. It helps keep the game fresh and adds to the overall challenge of Little Angel!

Overall, the free, ad-supported Windows Phone game is an entertaining way to pass the time and worth trying.
