What you need to know

  • The Nether Update is getting a sub-update that adds a new mob and makes tons of changes and enhancements.
  • The 1.16.2 update has been in early testing for several weeks now for both the Java and Bedrock Editions.
  • It's now rolling out to the public for all platforms, and features a rather long changelog for both editions.

The Nether Update has been a fantastic update for Minecraft, but it hasn't been perfect. Now, after weeks of solid testing and iterative changes, the 1.16.2 update is releasing to the public. This update is a smaller patch for the Nether Update, but actually features a solid list of changes for Minecraft, including bug fixes, UI enhancements, and even a brand-new mob with the piglin brute.

The piglin brute is a larger, more aggressive variant of the piglin mob you might already be familiar with, and reside inside of the ominous bastion remnant strongholds. They're not as reasonable as their smaller cousins, and can't be pacified with promises of gold. Instead, they'll attack all intruders with their powerful weapons, so watch out for the piglin brute.

Beyond that, expect a long list of quality-of-life improvements that should make the Nether Update even better than it already was, and should hopefully make Minecraft stable enough for the next big update, which could be the Mountain Update. Only time will tell, and we should learn the truth one way or the other in the next few weeks.

If you're interested, you can find the changelog for the 1.16.2 update for the Java Edition and for the Bedrock Editon to learn exactly what has been changed. Once you're done with that, make sure to install this update as soon as possible for the best Minecraft experience.
